Description
1950 Dodge B-4-D126
The B-series pickup trucks were sold from 1948 to 1953. They replaced the prewar Dodge truck and were replaced by the Dodge C series in 1954. The B-series trucks came in several different variants. The B1-B were -ton trucks standard with a 95 hp flathead-straight-six engine.
A worker bee if you will, as most trucks of the vintage era were used hard and ran to the end of their life. When one comes up fully restored, with a good body, plus set up to deliver and show, it's a true rarity. Here for your viewing and working pleasure we give you a 1950 Dodge B-4-D126 stake body truck, fully functional and ready to work, show, or promote your business.
Exterior
All business here, the body slathered in an industrial green that shows some chip marks and touch ups but nothing remarkable. Pontoon style fenders lead back to a centrally hinged hood with simple DODGE block lettering below. Round marker lights ride atop the fenders and are above the headlights with their chrome trim rings that flank the green painted, straw color pinstriped grille assembly. A white insert within the grille announces the duties of this truck, Job Rated, summing it all up. Black steel running boards flow from behind the fenders and give easy entry to the passenger compartment. Speaking of the cab, the doors are adorned with large chrome mirrors and the Pilot Cab design is present and accounted for with a split dual pane windshield and rear cab corner glass. Up top factory clearance lighting is on and looking just fab. A full oak-built stake body box sits on the back of the truck and presents with black steel framing for the slightly weathered finish of the wood. Large black mud flaps protect the drivers behind you from flying rocks and debris kicked up by the dual rear 6.50-16 tires mounted on black steel wheels.
Interior
Swinging open the all steel doors we are greeted with utilitarianism on the inside of doors. Body matching green colored steel panels make up the lower 2/3rd of the doors and up top is a simple oxblood vinyl panel that houses the window crank and door release handle. An oxblood colored vinyl bench seat stretches from door to door and can accommodate 3 passengers with ease. A black steering wheel fronts the very basic dash that is made up of centrally located pods, one containing vital engine monitoring gauges below the speedometer and the other a speaker grille with a black insert panel below. Between these twin pods are various pulls for cabin functions and all this sits within a champagne full metal jacket steel dash. A dark green carpet is down below and displays in lightly used condition with the gear shifter and parking brake levels protruding.
Drivetrain
Under the massive hood lies the heart of the truck. A well restored and great running 218ci L-head inline 6-cylinder mill topped by a 1-bbl carb making 96hp lies within, backed up by a 4-speed manual transmission. A heavy-duty rear axle assembly with 4.78 gearing is on the back and ready for whatever you can throw at it or in the truck for that matter. We note a fully operational PTO is attached to the transmission and ready to work with the pull of a lever.
Undercarriage
While too massive to fit on our lift we do note 4-wheel manual drum brakes, single exhaust to expel spent fossils, and heavy-duty leaf spring suspension all around. Other than the usual surface rust there is no invasive cancer to note save for around the battery tray, some leaks are present but nothing to be alarmed about. She's ready to deliver boys!!!
Drive-Ability
The truck fired to life and performed well on our test track here at the Classic Auto Mall. I almost felt like a big rig driver behind the wheel and this drive was more my speed versus driving a circa 1978 White Freightliner, truck driving school was over... I thoroughly enjoyed myself on the drive as the truck has adequate acceleration, respectable bias free braking and was surprisingly easy to drive. All functions were operating during my drive, I'm living the dream kids!!!
A worker, show-er, goer, or a great promotional piece for your business, the choice is yours! Great style and performance for a big truck that we're proud to have in our Hallowed Halls. Come visit the Classic Auto Mall and find your own personal throwback rig, and haul in style!
