    Description

    For sale 1 HEAVILY MODIFIED Imperial German "Butcher Model" 1898 / 05 Bayonet Knife + Scabbard Eurfert.
    The "Butcher Model" Bayonets by the Imperial German forces were primarily given to Pioneer & Machine gun troops to clear obstructions. They were also given to NCO's as a symbol of rank. Metal scabbard were given to these bayonets instead of leather scabbards.
    Overall length: 20.5".  HEAVILY MODIFIED 14.5" blade HAS BEEN HEAVILY GROUNDED. THERE IS NO MORE SAW TEETH ON THE SPINE OF THE BLADE. Right ricasso marked w/ Crown / "ERFURT" indicating mfg. at Erfurt factory in Germany. Spine of blade has crown "W" / 15 proof marking indicating WWII mfg. along w/ an indiscernable proof mark (mostly like one of the BUG proofs.). Wooden grip panels.
    CONDITION: blade has extentive machining & grounding marks along with sharpening. Finish is notably staining w/ patina & peppery oxidation throughout. Other metal parts exhibit patina & peppery oxidation. Grip panels appear intact w/ handling wear, gouges & loss of finish. Metal scabbard has gray appearance w/ peppery oxidation & patina throughout. Noticeable dents on each side of scabbard w/ series of small dents along back of scabbard.
